This is our word wall. If you come into our classroom you will see sight words, reading content words, and story words added to it as we learn new vocabulary. This also helps us when we are writing, along with our story word bank on the board, so that we can read and spell unfamiliar words.
Anchor Charts are one tool that we use in our classroom to remember what we learn. We complete anchor charts for different lessons, as well as an anchor chart for each new I-Ready story that we read so we can discuss story elements throughout the week spent on each story.
Students and Teachers are celebrating Red Ribbon Week. We have decorated our door to show that "Friends Scare Off Drugs & Bullies" because friends don't let friends do drugs or be a bully! Students drew pictures of themselves with their best friend and we posted them on "monsters."
We had a special visit from some fireman at Leggett Volunteer Fire Department. They came to talk with students about fire safety. Students also had the opportunity to view some fire trucks and equipment, as well as enter the "smokehouse" to practice how to escape from a house that is on fire and full of smoke.
Students created their own "leaf man" and picked up fall leaves when they went outside for recess. We discussed describing words.
Students have the opportunity to choose a book buddy during independent reading time. They enjoy reading with their book buddies!
Students enjoy working on their individual I-Ready lessons on the I-Ready computer program for students. They work on reading and math lessons on I-Ready that assigns lessons to them based on their scores on I-Ready assessments done on the computer.
